Choose the Right Size – Your Uniform Affects Training & Performance

A Taekwondo uniform is not just a uniform — it is an important part of the student’s training and performance.

We strongly encourage parents to choose a uniform that is clean, neat and properly fitted to the student’s current body size. The sleeves should not extend beyond the wrist, and the trouser length should not extend beyond the ankle.

Please avoid buying a uniform that is too large simply for the student to “grow into”. An oversized uniform can become a disadvantage rather than an advantage. When the uniform is too loose or too long, it can affect the student’s movement and make it difficult for the Master/Teacher to clearly see the student’s body position and technique.

This is especially important for students who are working towards better technique and competition performance. If the Master cannot clearly observe the student’s movements, it becomes more difficult to identify and correct small technical details. During competition, unclear or incorrect movements may also affect the student’s presentation and scoring.

Our goal is for the uniform to support the student’s movement, technique and progress — not become a burden during training.

Therefore, please choose the correct size based on the student’s current body size. A properly fitted uniform allows the student to move freely, helps the Master monitor technique more accurately, and gives the student a better foundation to improve and perform confidently

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TAEKWONDO UNIFORM SIZE

Top Size :

Choosing the correct Dobok top size is important for comfort, movement and proper technique during training.

STEP 1 – Check the Student’s Height

For students with a standard body shape and weight, simply measure the student’s height in CM and refer to the ATSA Uniform Size Chart.

STEP 2 – Consider the Student’s Body Shape

Height is the main reference, but body shape should also be considered:

① Standard Body Shape
➡️ Choose the size according to the student’s height.

② Slim / Thin Body Shape
➡️ Measure the height and consider choosing one size smaller if appropriate, so the uniform is not unnecessarily loose.

③ Larger / Heavier Body Shape
➡️ Measure the height and consider choosing one size larger to provide enough room for the body and comfortable movement.

📌 Important: The purpose is to find a uniform that fits the student’s current body shape, not simply to choose a larger size for future growth.

STEP 3 – Check the Sleeve Length

There is no requirement for the sleeves to reach exactly to the wrist.

As long as the sleeve does not extend beyond the wrist, it is acceptable.

✅ Sleeve reaches the wrist → OK
✅ Sleeve is slightly shorter but allows free movement → OK
❌ Sleeve extends beyond the wrist → Not allowed

A slightly shorter sleeve is not a problem. The priority is that the uniform fits properly and does not interfere with the student’s movement or technique.

Pants Size for Normal Weight :

Choosing the correct uniform size is important to ensure the student can move freely, perform techniques correctly and train comfortably.

STEP 1 – Measure Your Pant Length

To find the correct Taekwondo pant size, you can measure the student’s body directly.

You will need:

A measuring tape
The student should stand straight and naturally
Preferably measure without shoes

STEP 2 – Where to Start Measuring?

Place the beginning of the measuring tape at slightly above the belly button

📍 Start: Slightly above the belly button
📍 End: Down along the leg until the ankle

Measure the straight-line length from the starting point down to the ankle.Do not measure from the waistline of the pants.

STEP 3 – Check the Measurement in CM

For example:

If the measurement from slightly above the belly button → ankle is:100 cm

Please refer to the ATSA Taekwondo Uniform Size Chart and look for the size that matches the student’s measurement.

STEP 4 – Choose the Correct Size

Please choose a size that is appropriate for the student’s current body size.

❌ Do not intentionally choose a much larger size just because the student may grow taller in the future.

A uniform that is too large or too long can interfere with movement and make it harder for the Master/Teacher to observe and correct the student’s technique.

Pants Size for Overweight:

For students who are overweight or have a larger thigh circumference, measuring only the length from the belly button to the ankle may not be enough to determine the correct pant size.

In this case, please check Thigh mesurement:

Thigh Circumference
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of the thigh and record the measurement in CM and +10cm.

📌 Why is the thigh measurement important?

The pants must be wide enough around the thigh to allow the student to move, kick and perform Taekwondo techniques comfortably.

For students with a larger thigh circumference, it may be necessary to choose a larger pant size to ensure a comfortable fit around the thigh. As a result, the pant length may become longer than required.

👉 This is okay. Please do not choose a smaller size just to get the correct length.

Instead, choose the size that fits the body and thigh properly, then have the pants altered/shortened by a tailor to the correct ankle length.

Students grow, body sizes change, and their training needs develop over time. You do not need to keep using an oversized or uncomfortable uniform just because the old one was purchased recently.

To make it easier for students to maintain the right fit for training, ATSA provides a special Rhino Uniform Trade-In Programme.

Instead of purchasing a completely new uniform at the normal price, students can trade in their pre-used Rhino Standard Taekwondo Uniform and upgrade to a new uniform for only RM99.

Trade-In Fee: RM99

This means your old Rhino standard uniform can still have trade-in value when it is time to move to a more suitable size.

Simply bring the student's pre-used Rhino Taekwondo Uniform to the ATSA counter.

Our staff will assist with the trade-in arrangement and help you choose the appropriate new size based on the student's current body size.
